Project Type: Hospitality

Craft’s on 280

Craft’s on 280 is a full-scale renovation of a former restaurant space designed to create a stronger presence along Highway 280 while enhancing both customer experience and operational efficiency.

Due to the site’s positioning and surrounding vegetation, a prominent tower element was incorporated into the design to improve visibility from the roadway and establish a recognizable architectural identity.

Inside the dining room, the existing lay-in ceiling system was removed to create a more open, modern atmosphere with an enhanced sense of space.

The project also introduced a covered drive-thru canopy, allowing guests to comfortably order and receive meals regardless of weather conditions. To improve service efficiency, the drive-thru includes a walk-out service door, enabling staff to deliver food directly to vehicles when needed.

An outdoor patio was added to expand the dining experience, complete with fans, heaters, and exterior televisions so guests can enjoy comfortable open-air seating while watching sports year-round.

De Nada

De Nada was envisioned as an authentic and deeply personal Mexican dining experience, shaped through a highly collaborative process with the owner who wanted the space to feel warm, genuine, and rooted in tradition.

The design embraces the existing warehouse character through a refined palette of natural wood, encaustic tile, rattan, steel, and stone, while preserving original elements like salvaged floor tile and wood ceilings to create a rich, layered atmosphere.

Personal touches including framed family photos and a custom hand-painted mural featuring members of the family all contribute to the restaurant’s strong sense of identity and storytelling.

Inspired by the surrounding neighborhood and nearby baseball stadium, an exterior service window serves churros, chips, and drinks on game days, activating the streetscape.

Filled with natural light, cacti, and succulents, the restaurant balances rustic and contemporary design in a celebration of Mexican culture, craftsmanship, and community.

Farm Bowl + Juice Co.

Farm Bowl + Juice Co. is a wellness eatery that promotes a lifestyle of clean and refreshing nutrition by sourcing their ingredients from local farms.

By staying true to the restaurant’s existing materials palette and prioritizing the owner’s value of health and sustainability, CCR designed this fit-out to enhance and refine their already well-established aesthetic.

CCR began the process by designing two different kitchen layouts.

Subsequently, the front-of-house was developed to reflect the project’s inspiration.

Taking the existing shell’s limitations of under slab conduits, rated assembly choices, and mechanical provisions into consideration, our team was able to provide creative design solutions for the wide array of challenges.

Our solution welcomes the customer into a bright interior, fitted with comfortable, sleek seating arrangements paired with light fixtures that correlate with the farm-to-table appeal of the café.

The batten-and-board wall separates the seating area from the back-of-house section while heightening the clean, minimal aesthetic.

Designing the kitchen during the early stages of the project provided the perfect stage for collaborating with the kitchen consultant.

Together, we were able to maximize kitchen space and integrate the optimal electrical hookups to maximize power consumption.

Farm Bowl + Juice Co.’s back of house operation features a Goodnature X-1 Juicer that is capable of producing 20-40 gallons of juice per hour.

Customers leave satisfied by the clean farm-fresh nutrition and visually satiated by the bright, colorful, and minimal style of the interior architecture and design.

UAB Hilton Hotel

Lobby Rooms Grand Staircase Meeting Spaces Restaurant Outdoor Space

The renovation of the UAB Hilton created a clean, luxurious space with a professional and collegiate feel.

This project began as a lobby and staircase renovation and gradually expanded to the 14 floors of rooms and restaurant. Each facet of the project reflects the spirit of the University of Alabama at Birmingham while tying in elements of the surrounding city.

The lobby is often a university visitor’s first impression of Birmingham and of UAB, so the material palette uses black iron accents and UAB’s green to establish a strong connection to Birmingham—The Iron City—and to the university.

It was vital that our team incorporated the the same material palette and overall aesthetic throughout each floor of the hotel.

Lobby

Previously dark and dated, the renovated lobby features high-contrast textures and materials that create four defined zones of use: reception, café, lounge, and waiting.

High-quality furniture, textile selections, and custom wall graphics give each area a comfortable, friendly character.

Rooms

Updated finishes, wallcoverings, paint, rugs, furniture, and bathrooms create an accessible oasis with views of Birmingham. Headboards on the 11th floor were reupholstered with a green fabric. Our graphics department selected photographs for 13th floor rooms to incorporate UAB school spirit.

Grand Staircase

Seating at the bottom of the renovated grand staircase creates space for hotel guests, visitors, and event attendees to work or relax.

Meeting Spaces

From the grand staircase, guests are guided into a multi-purpose space that connects them to several adjacent rooms.

Event rooms on the bottom floor were transformed from dark, drab spaces into a luxurious energetic environment.

Benches throughout the multi-purpose event space were reupholstered and lighting arrangements were reused for cost effectiveness.

New fabrics, flooring, and paint throughout the corridor, meeting rooms, and banquet halls converted this space and tied in design elements from the lobby and hotel rooms using low-impact and cost-effective measures.

Restaurant

An upscale sports-themed restaurant for hotel guests to experience good food and the spirit of UAB.

The renovation of the hotel warranted a restaurant with a new edge. The restaurant’s previous finishes were swapped with custom wall graphics, new lighting fixtures, and wood finishes to establish a fine-dining environment.

Recessed light fixtures were selected to concentrate the lighting and cast shadows for a dramatic mood.

Color changing LED lighting above the bar, enables the owner to change the tone of the restaurant for late nights and events.

For the guests’ sports-watching needs, a large screen tv was installed along the custom sports graphic.

Artwork throughout the restaurant was condensed to promote a cohesive theme.

The client needed a way to close off the breakfast buffet during the day.

A new Faulk wall system with sliding doors and faux wood finishes was the ideal solution for the issue. Employees can easily slide the doors open and closed to fill, empty, and clean the buffet everyday.

The seamless installation ties in the wood finishes found throughout the lobby.

The client prompted us to reimagine their restaurant as
an upscale sports-themed experience that encapsulates the spirit of the UAB Blazers and promotes a
high-end experience.

Our graphic design team designed a new logo, menus, custom wall graphics, signage, and elevator wraps to inspire the interior design of the restaurant.

Outdoor Space

We added bright green canopies to provide shade on the outdoor deck and reference the UAB brand system.

High-top bar seating provides an active bar experience while lowered seating and ceilings create a more intimate dining experience. An extra service bar provides additional space to make cocktails, which alleviates congestion from the main dining area.

Warm hues invite guests to settle in and dine around the open flame grill that is the focal point of the restaurant.

Total on 1st

This renovation of the first floor of the historic Woodward Building in downtown Birmingham houses a clinical spa that offers the most advanced non-invasive treatments for the body, face, and skin.

Soft, fluid forms and earthy, sophisticated Italianate tile and bronze materials reference the practice’s branding, the Neolithic earth goddess, fertility symbols, and the rivers of life. Flowing water features, scented air, and soothing sounds enhance the visitor experience.

The entrance lobbies and treatment bar are bright and open with views to the busy street outside.

Inside the main entrance, visitors are greeted at a curved desk with water imagery and the spa’s branding projected on the wall above.

The large, curving walls are coated in a shimmering, iridescent plaster and conceal the waiting room and clinical spaces, creating separation to ensure privacy and relaxation.

The lighting and materials in the waiting room, hallway, treatment rooms, and restrooms create a quiet, soothing environment.

Shelves inspired by the shape of a water droplet display skincare product offerings.

Behind the retail area, the oval-shaped waiting room is covered in a custom wallcovering inspired by the spa’s branding, and oval windows allow a limited amount of natural light into the space.

Taking inspiration from water and elements of nature, the space provides a place of relaxation and respite from the busy downtown environment just outside its doors.
