A spa and dermatology center is not only opening downtown, but it is also already planning an expansion.

Total on 1st Advanced Clinical Spa, an extension of Southside-based Total Skin & Beauty Dermatology Center, is opening next month and will boost its square footage this summer.

Total on 1st at 1972 First Ave. N. will open in a phased-in capacity beginning May 2 with a full service launch June 6.

The medical spa currently occupies 5,000 square feet of space on the bottom level of the Woodward Building with plans to occupy three additional floors. The additional space will be utilized to integrate all its Southside dermatological operations into the space once future build-outs are complete.

After looking for a new space for two years, Total Skin & Beauty secured the lease for the First Avenue location, which was originally expected to open in May 2021.

“This new location is one that our physicians have long been planning for, and though due to ups and downs of the pandemic as well as supply chain issues, timelines have definitely shifted,” said company CEO Jennifer Cork.

John Lauriello and Blake Crowe of Southpace Properties represented Total on 1st in securing all Woodward Building spaces. Matt Gilchrist and Sam Carroll of Graham & Co. represented the landlord in the initial lease deal.

The 4,587-square-foot space was designed using heavy Italian influences by Richard Carnaggio of CCR Architecture. Interior Designers Anna Bautista with CCR Architecture and Bo Duke and Kristin Marcus of Office Environments also contributed to complementing the theme.

“We want new and return Total clients to visit our spa and feel transported to a place of sanctuary, revitalization and beauty, and we have gone to great lengths to ensure this is the experience from the moment you enter the spa,” said Total on 1st Dr. James Krell. “To create a space that helps unite spa and medical-grade skincare — and in Birmingham’s city center — is something we have conceptualized as a brand for quite some time.”

The space will host spa and medical-grade skincare services that include massage therapies, private spa parties, a dry bar, facials, skin and body treatments, cosmetic injectables, laser treatments, a retail skincare center and more. They are currently accepting pre-booking appointments.
