Project Type: Retail

20 Midtown

20 Midtown is a mixed-use development that connects UAB and the City Center with ground-floor retailers such as Starbucks, Chipotle, and Publix, and includes parking, apartments, and amenities above.

The complex includes 436 apartments ranging from micro to three-bedroom units and was completed in two phases.

  • Size 982,500 SF
  • Building 1 36 Units
  • Building 2 75 Units
  • Building 3 325 Units

Phase I consists of Building 1 and 2—a combined 111 units—retail space and parking.

The ground floor retail spurs activity on the street while hiding parking behind and above. The apartments and rooftop terrace give a terrific view of the city skyline and Red Mountain.

The design is sleek—using metal panels, zinc, concrete, and stucco to blend the various uses and define the layers of public and private spaces.

Phase II (Building 3) consists of 325 micro to three-bedroom units with retail, restaurants, parking, and amenities.

The interiors are comfortable and modern with high-quality, neutral finishes in the units and bold, bright colors in the public spaces.

With ground floor retail, gathering spaces, a fitness center, and a pool deck, amenities are key to this phase of the development. The amenity deck serves the entire complex and includes the development’s pool, bocce courts, green space, outdoor grilling, and hammocks.

Block 162

This renovation transformed the building’s ground level into retail and restaurant space and created studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments on the upper level.

The main entry stair and hallways feature complementary blue colors to liven the spaces, and the units were designed with neutrals and a variety of textures and patterns.

The units are fully furnished and available for rent through Landing, a membership-based platform that gives its members access to flexible apartment leases within their growing network.

By exposing and cleaning up the existing interior brick and interior beams, the design showcases the history of the building and its sophisticated, timeless style.

RMR 4×4

RMR 4×4 is a renovation of an existing welding and fabrication shop into a luxury, pre-owned Land Rover dealership.

The owners of RMR wanted a place that could house their automotive inventory indoors as well as a space that could accommodate social gatherings for their many repeat customers.

The office showroom has an industrial vibe with redwood plank accent walls, custom redwood cabinetry, concrete counter tops and a reclaimed galvanized wash basin sink that add warmth and character to the space.

Murals depicting the company branding and a new entry canopy revive the exterior of the building.

Large glass garage doors were added to provide fantastic day-lighting and the ability to change the showroom display cars easily.
