Samford Field House

Reconfiguration of the original softball field produced additional space to sanction a new field house, concessions building, press box and regulation softball field for Samford University.

The buildings continue the Samford tradition of Georgian themed architecture with a subtle gesturing towards modernity.

The field house contains coaching offices and player locker rooms for both the softball and baseball teams surrounding an indoor hitting and pitching facility.

Hoover YMCA

The project includes a gymnasium, exercise areas, indoor running track, exterior pool, locker rooms, child day care, classrooms, offices and group meeting rooms.

A variety of activity rooms organized around a central space allows toddlers, teenagers and adults to safely interact in shared spaces while also providing separate space with peers.

Disability Rights and Resources

The building is designed as a model for universal design, sustainability and the national disability rights movement.

The new office building includes offices, classrooms, conference room, library, consultation rooms, quiet room and teaching kitchen and was designed as a model for universal design, sustainability and the national disability rights movement.

Universal design features include: flush surface transitions from outdoor parking and sidewalk zones to the building’s interior, deliberate changes in paving surface texture as tactile aids to blind pedestrians and the use of vibrant color canopies as directional cues to the central lobby.

Branscomb Community Center

The renovated Community Center has become a hub for neighborhood gatherings, classes, and events. An architectural trellis clearly defines the new entrance with shadows and light.

Interior spaces including the community meeting room, offices, kitchen and maintenance shop have been updated, reconfigured and refreshed.

A new youth wing that serves as a computer classroom, activity center and host for after school programs for the children of Branscomb was expanded into the adjacent lot.

YWoodlawn

The YWCA is upgrading the neighborhood block by block and what was once an unsafe neighborhood is now a family-friendly environment for transitional housing.

By salvaging the existing brick and hardwood floors, upgrading to energy efficient HVAC units and windows, installing water efficient plumbing fixtures, planting drought tolerant landscaping and using local materials, CCR achieved a green design.

Steeper roof pitches, roof dormers, porches and fresh color and material combinations give the renovated structures a face lift.

McKenzie Court

The McKenzie Court project was a revitalization of an existing Tuscaloosa community and was built in two phases.

Phase I included the McKenzie Court Community Center.

Phase II included the Weaver Bolden Library and 144 multi-family housing units.

The Community Center includes large multi-purpose spaces, classrooms and administrative areas.

The Weaver Bolden Library provides a space for the vital education, interaction, and growth of the community, and instills a feeling of pride for the neighborhood residents.

McKenzie Court Phase II included 144 multi-family housing units of traditional brick and shingle design. Large porches, pocket parks, community gardens and playgrounds encourage interaction among neighbors. Parking areas for residents and guests are tucked discreetly behind the buildings, easing the visual clutter at the front of the buildings while allowing convenient access to the units.

This project includes the addition of classrooms, exercise areas, locker rooms, kitchen, canteen, a climbing totem, an exterior pool, playing fields and a garden.

SoHo Flats + Homewood City Hall

CCR master planned and designed the entirety of the SoHo Square mixed-use development. This project involved extensive cooperation between public and private developers.

Homewood City Hall, in the heart of SoHo Square, includes meeting rooms, council chambers, a terrace overlooking the historic downtown, and public and private offices.

SoHo Flats is comprised of 50,000 SF of retail space and 76 condominiums. City Hall, SoHo Square and SoHo Flats are all situated upon a sub-surface 600-car public parking deck designed to accommodate the city center and surrounding retail spaces.

Memorial Park Natatorium

This community center houses locker rooms, an indoor competition pool, glass garage doors opening to a new exterior recreational pool, and a snack bar linking the two buildings.

Swimming lessons and other community activities will take place on site. A ramp for the elderly, young. and handicapped persons makes this facility a center for all ages.
