On Thursday, August 7, 2025, a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the new Jasper City Hall in downtown Jasper.

The $7 million renovation project transformed the former Sherer Auditorium into a modern hub for city services, located just a few blocks from the old city hall.
“The inauguration of our new City Hall signifies a new era for Jasper,” said Mayor Gary Cowen. “This facility embodies our dedication to delivering outstanding services to our residents and serves as a center for community engagement and collaboration.”
“It means a lot to a lot of people that live here. So it’s historical preservation, which is a big deal,” said District 3 city councilman Josh Gates. “It’s also repurposing and making this kind of a catalyst in the beginning stages of the growth vision that we have for our community.”
The renovation restored the original stone exterior of the 1938 Works Progress Administration building and modernized the interior for improved functionality and accessibility. The design blends old and new—creating a timeless civic space that honors history, sustainability, and community.
