Smile-A-Mile Place was honored with the Alabama Council of the AIA’s 2018 Merit Award.
Out of a pool of 54 entries, 1 Honor Award, 3 Merit Awards, and 2 Honorable Mentions were given at a ceremony on March 10th at The Florentine in Birmingham.
The panel of judges included Chair Eric Lagerberg, with CallisonRTKL, Ruchika Modi, Practice for Architecture & Urbanism, Starling Keene, NYC Department of Design & Construction and Joseph Tanney, Resolution: 4 Architecture all of New York City.
Of the Smile-A-Mile project the judges commented that the design “is spatially interesting” and is a “strong communal space with a variety of interesting, beautiful spaces and compelling intimate spaces.” Brian DiRusso was the head architect on the project with Caron Stallings as the lead interior designer.
