Birmingham's sports scene got some long-awaited news this week when the NCAA selected the Magic City to host the 2023 Men's Basketball Tournament and the 2025 Women's Basketball Tournament.
While a collaborative effort made the return of March Madness to Birmingham possible, one of the key pieces is the ongoing renovation of Legacy Arena at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.
The arena is currently undergoing an approximately $100 million renovation that will modernize the facility, which experts had said previously held Birmingham back in its bids to land events like the NCAA Basketball Tournament, which last came to Birmingham in 2008.
In the gallery above, you can see the latest renderings of the project.
Birmingham's BL Harbert International won the contract for the renovation. Kansas City-based Populous is the lead architecture firm.
Below, you can look at prior renderings to see how the design has evolved.
