A specialty vet clinic is coming to Southside.

Ingrid Straeter is opening Animal Cardiology of Alabama (formerly Cardiac Evaluations) on Sept. 1 at 2114 10th Ave. S. The clinic is moving from 2704 19th St. S. in Homewood.

She will also move her Animal Rehabilitation and Fitness practice. Both will operate in the downstairs area of the split-level Southside building, which is around 2,800 square feet.

To start, Straeter will have five employees for the practices.

The second level of the building is around 3,000 square feet and has its own entrance. Straeter is eyeing either renting out the space to a small animal general practitioner or transforming it into loft apartments.

"Southside is a wonderful area, and while it had undergone significant change already over the past two decades, it has recently seen another upswing in development, both business and commercial," Straeter said. "I'm very happy to be able to contribute to this and hope that the renovation of my great old building is going to be another positive factor."

Straeter, the registered agent for Magnolia Park Building LLC, purchased the building for $546,500 in 2017. She renovated the building over the past year and said she is looking forward to watching changes that come in the Southside area.

"Brother Bryant Park (Magnolia Park) is right in front of us, offering lovely green space and open areas," she said. "I hope to see that park gaining more popularity as well, and to have some of its areas further restored. That'll be especially important in light of the condominiums that are about to open up, and with the changes that'll take place soon just east of the park."
